Seth is a Senior Astronomer at SETI Institute
Seth Shostak is a Senior Astronomer for SETI Institute and a former Director of Center for SETI Research when it was a separate department. Seth earned his B.A. in physics from Princeton University and Ph.D. in astrophysics from California Institute of Technology. He has been hosting SETI’s weekly radio show “Big Picture Science” since 2002. Each week, Shostak interviews guests about the latest scientific research on a variety of topics: cosmology, physics, genetics, paleontology, evolutionary biology and astrobiology. In 2010, he was elected as a Fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. He was the Chair of the International Academy of Astronautics SETI Permanent Committee from 2003-2012. In 2004 he won Klumpke-Roberts Award awarded by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the public understanding and appreciation of astronomy. Seth is an author of many books, mostly in collaboration with other scientists with “Confessions of an Alien Hunter: A Scientist’s Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence” (2009) as an only author.
