Pamela Gay

Pamela is an assistant research professor at Southern Illinois University, writer, co-host of Astronomy Cast.

Pamela is a Assistant Research Professor at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville (since 2006). Her main research love is variable stars but she also uses her technology skills to explore the secrets of galaxy evolution and planetary surface geology. Pamela earned her B.S. in Astrophysics at Michigan State University in 1996 and eventually Ph.D. in Astronomy from University of Texas, Austin in 2002. She is most known for co-hosting popular podcast – Astronomy Cast with – Fraser Cain. For over 10 years Pamela and Fraser are taking listeners on a facts-based journey through the cosmos, exploring not only what we know, but how we know it. Since 2011, Pamela is a Principal Investigator responsible for all project management, budgeting, and overall vision at CosmoQuest, citizen science project. Listing all of Pamela’s awards would take up the whole page so the most important are: Woman of the Year (2011) from National Association of Professional Women and Outstanding Science Educator of the Year (2012) from St Louis Academy of Sciences. Pamela is also active in scientific skepticism outreach, she was a speaker at The Amazing Meeting in 2011 and participated in a panel alongside Bill Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Lawrence Krauss and Phil Plait.
